Welcome to
Dunge Valley Gardens 2013...

After gardening for 30 years! this is going to be our best year ever; the Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Magnolias have put on flower buds such that we have never seen before, it’s going to be a fantastic show!

Our new areas of the Gardens; the Pennine View and the Hidden Gardens with the Free Entry to the Nature Reserve have been very popular.

We always sell out of most of our plants so do call in if only for the Double Hellebores they are looking fantastic and each one is unique.

It is so important that visitors understand that our Gardens change every year. Over 100 new Rhododendrons were planted at the beginning of 2012 and 150 were added before our 2013 opening. Ours is unlike any other Garden in Cheshire. It never stands still or looks like it did last year or 10 years ago!

Many visitors come every month saying what a wonderful varied venue it is throughout the season.

Download our leaflet here.

If you haven't been for some time you will be amazed!

...and Nature Reserve

A new addition in 2012 was our 100 acre Nature Reserve with a wealth of wildlife and flowers with outstanding views across the rolling Pennine Hills, enjoyed by everyone making an effort to walk that bit further.

The Orchid Field

We are just 18 mins. from Macclesfield,
20 mins. from Stockport and 15 mins. from Buxton.
The Goyt Valley is only 5minutes away.

The Gardens are now OPEN.

Plant Sales are available.

Please telephone 01663 733787 or E-mail: david@dungevalley.co.uk

The beautiful Hellebores, Pale Yellow Rhododendron 'Lemon Dream' and the Scented Rhododendron 'Tinkerbird' are this year's most outstanding plants.

Scented Rhododendrons are highly sort after but they are either very large growing like R. 'Loderi King George' or end up tall and straggly like R. 'Fragrantissimum' or R. edgeworthii.

The Coxes at Glendoick have produced a number of outstanding hybrids and R. 'Tinkerbird' is proving to be one of the best. It is compact and hardy with beautifully scented white flowers.

As it flowers at the end of April or early May it tends to miss the Spring frosts but sighting it with some overhead cover is desirable.

We always sell out of many of the rarer Rhododendrons so call in early in the season to make sure you are not disappointed.

Double Helleborus

FACILITIES here are still available to any CHARITIES in the area to serve refreshments to our customers at the weekends. This would raise money for your Charity at no charge. The kitchen is available with hot water, cups, saucers and plates, etc. You would just provide the food. Seating would be in the end conservatory and outside. Please telephone 01663 733787.

Also, IF ANYONE has AN EVENT they WOULD LIKE TO RUN HERE THIS COMING SEASON; Photographic, Guided Walks, Yoga, Garden Club, Hardy Plant Society, Alpine Garden Society, Cottage Garden Society, Rhododendron Group, etc, etc, then on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or any evenings YOU CAN HIRE THE GARDENS EXCLUSIVELY.
Please telephone us.

Recommended Garden of the month by Chris Beardshaw at
"Cheshire's Gardens"

Dunge Valley Rhododendron Gardens

A spring time feast for the eyes and soul! The drive into the Cheshire Peak District is joy enough, but when you arrive at Dunge Valley it's like being transported to another country as a riot of colours unfolds before you. It's fair to say I have a soft spot for Dunge Valley but once you have been for yourself you will understand why!

David and Elizabeth Ketley bought the house and 5 acres of land back in 1976 and they have created the beautiful woodland gardens which can be enjoyed today. David, who regularly visits Nepal on trekking trips, is an avid plant collector and together they have run the nursery and gardens. Only open for four months of the year, this month sees David and Elizabeth open the doors again and first of the plants to be enjoyed are the double hellebores which, if you fall in love with them as much as me, you will be glad that there will be chance to buy a few of your own.

Later on in the spring you will no doubt want to visit again as the finest display of Rhododendrons and Azaleas will be performing and a glance across their wooded valley will reveal an array of oranges, pinks, reds, and yellows.

Enjoy too their Acers, Magnolias and the famous Blue Poppy!

Dunge Valley Gardens
has a Hardy Plant Nursery

The Gardens together with our 100 acre Nature Reserve, open to garden visitors, form a haven for wild life. In conjunction with Macclesfield RSPB many bird boxes have been erected.
The Macclesfield RSPB will be here on the May Bank Holiday Weekend serving teas and cakes on
Saturday 25th, Sunday 26th and Monday 27th May.

We go out of our way in this time of constraint to bring in plants at very competitive prices.
E.g. Our Purple leaved Acer Palmatum are a bargain at just £11.80 each
(2L Pots); an unbeatable price.

Please Note: We have nothing to do with the wholesale nursery D G Ross in the middle of Kettleshulme.

What we can give is expert advice; you're not going to end up with some tunnel grown plants imported from Holland dying after the first frost. Bring along your plans and we can design the garden for you free of charge. We will beat any price within 5 miles from here on the same plant.
